Valentine's Day Recap

Luckily we only had to make one box this year—Ellie and Ainsley made envelopes at their class parties, and Robbie didn't care, so he just collected his in a Ziploc bag. Nice.

Years ago we started giving books on Valentine's day, and it's one of our favorite traditions.

We also have a tradition of eating crepes and strawberries for dinner (this was not well thought out—we should probably switch to something with no sugar). We found out at the last minute that Ralph and Judy didn't have plans for his birthday, so we invited them and Jake to join us, which was a treat.

here's the story:

I was interviewed for a newpaper article about kids and sleep, and quoted as saying something like "when I'm tired, I feel like supervising from the couch." Ever since, it's been our catch phrase for slacker parenting. Ironically, I only had one child at the time and we were practically attached at the hip. Now that I have four older kids, they spend chunks of time playing without even the benefit of me watching from the couch. However, I do try to come running if it sounds like there might be blood. Somehow they have all thrived in spite of me.
