Sailaway

Rob told me I couldn't watch the Olympics with the family until I posted at least one cruise post. Apparently he wasn't satisfied with this post. So here goes day one...

After an uneventful Southwest flight to L.A. and a transfer bus to the dock, here we are boarding the ship. They wouldn't take a photo with my camera, and photo scrooge didn't want to shell out the $20 for the one they took, so I just snapped a shot of their photo. I agree that it's a racket, but now I wish I had the better quality shot—it's not often that Rob is actually smiling, plus, with our green and red jackets, this would be the perfect Christmas card photo, right?
After getting roped into a "tour" (sales pitch) of the spa, we grabbed some lunch and then headed up to the sun deck for sailaway.
A cruise is the perfect vacation to take with extended family (or friends). You have plenty of time to do your own thing, but it's fun to have a group for cards, dinner, trivia... Here's my dad and mom, my great-aunt Colleen, and my grandma with Rob.
Another shot of us.
On our balcony. This might be a record day for smiling photos.
I was doing my best to stay awake, since we had to report to our muster station for a lifejacket demonstration, but I fell asleep before my head hit the pillow once we made it back to our room.
We had a late, casual dinner. In addition to my mom and dad we were lucky to be cruising with some of our Ashton cousins. They are my mom's cousins (my grandma, Helen, and my great-aunt, Colleen are sisters) but they are closer to my age than my mom's age, so they seem more like my first cousins. Here at our table are Marci and Kent (who was celebrating his 50th birthday).
And at the next table are two of their kids, Aaron and Autumn, plus Kathleen and Claudia (Kent's sisters, Colleen's daughters—is this confusing enough?)
Kent and Marci live in Dallas, Colleen in Phoenix, Claudia and Kathleen in Anchorage, so we don't see any of them much and it was great to spend some time with them. We owe Kathleen big-time, since she works for Princess and got us the friends & family discount. We'll have to name our next child after her. Except we're done. Our next car maybe? :)

You need to go on more cruises apparently. That's the most I've seen Rob smiling in photos, probably ever.
